the distinctly named...

Hi Friends!

Wow, what a fun weekend with Evie's article coming out. The girls and I took the "distinctly named" Dr. Bonebrake his very own copy last Thursday, and it was so incredibly great to see him. We had a good laugh about the "distinctly named" line in the article, we know him so well now his name seemed less and less weird over time I guess (: I forgot how closely we got to know him during the months before Evie's birth. We saw him at least every 3 weeks for about 7 months... more than I see some family members! He was absolutely thrilled to see Evie doing so well, pulling herself up on the chairs in the waiting room and cruising from one piece of furniture to the next. At one point he leaned down to talk to her and said "Wow, I never thought I'd see those big blue eyes in here." Brings me to tears just thinking about it. Omaha is truly blessed to have such a wonderful physician to take loving care of unborn babies like Evie and their families. God was really taking care of us when we were sent to his office.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and emails, it has been fun reading through them. It is amazing to have so many people care about Evie. I got an email from a mom whose daughter had a rare form of bone tumors and could have lost her legs. She had major surgery, her legs were saved, and she is now a Division I Collegiate Swimmer and captain of her team. It's easy for me to worry about Evie's future if I let myself look ahead too far. School, activities, friends, all of the unknowns that come with being a little different. It was a blessing for me to read about an older child who has persevered through such a huge trial with success.

Lyla's first day of preschool was fantastic, she is such a great kid. Sometimes I worry that she's a little too much like her mom, but I think she's going to make it (:

We have had so many house showings lately, your continued prayers are appreciated! My vacuum would like a break and so would my kids, being out of the house for a whole day can take a toll on our schedule but it will hopefully be worth it. I am looking forward to whatever God has in store for us next.

Love you guys! Thanks for loving us and checking in (: We get to see Evie's pulmonologist on Tuesday, she has been doing great so it should be a breeze.

  4. I was in tears reading your story in the Spirit Magazine on a flight in California today. It was just yesterday that my husband and I were discussing the difficult choices some parents must make when faced with trials such as yours. How interesting that today your story fell into my hands. I'm touched by the grace and honest faith with which you and your family have approached this challenge. May God continue to bless you with the strength and courage to overcome anything and everything!

  5. I was so upset when our plane landed in Maryland while I was on my way to see my grandparents, because I had two pages left to read in the article about your daughter. I was crying as I read your story and I was not getting off that plane unitl I finished it. Then the captin said ..we landed a little early so we will have to taxi for a while..YES! I was so happy that I was not going to have to ask the flight attendant if I could please take it with me. Reading this story was honestly the highlight of my whole trip. I shared your story with my family memebers as we ate dinner. You are an amazing mother and person, and your daughter has learned already to be amazing just like her mom. My heart goes out to you and your family. My family (even those who were not able to read your story on Southwest)and I are praying for you. I will continue to pray and check your blog for new updates. Your story has really touched me and made my flight one of the best I ever had.

  10. Hi,

I'm a frequent flyer on southwest, so I get to read pretty much all the articles, and I must say, yours was the most touching article I've ever read. You and your husband are amazing parents. When I have kids of my own, if I can have half of your strength and patience, I'd be a great mother. God bless you and your family. You will always be in my thoughts.

  13. dear lindsey, i was crying tears of pride and joy on my Southwest flight, as i read your story. your brokenheartedness mirrors that of our Father. your willingness to risk to love, even if it hurts more, shows the world the magnitude of His love. i'm so, so proud of this journey you and your family are taking...i'm praying for you. i'll be telling your story in my sermon tomorrow (i'm a youth pastor interviewing for a position in new york) to share an example of God working His glory out in our weakness...sin has damaged little Evie but it will prove to only bring more glory to our Loving Father, the Great Physician, the One who is painting His Providence and Love on His canvas - your life and Evie Jayne's. God bless you! Praying for your house to sell, too!!! =)

  16. Smile. I had work to do but pulled out Spirit Magazine to get me through the time we can turn on electronics. Just about the time we hit 10,000 feet I started on the article about Evie and your courageous family. I have several cousins who have dealt with very sick children (one died and one is thriving after many procedures), so I could not help but finish the article and e-mail this blog address to myself so I can follow the story. Your collective strength is inspiring. Thank you.

  17. I read your article on a Southwest flight from Los Ageles to Salt Lake. I read that instead of listening to my iPod or playing games on my cell phone. Your story is truly inspiring.

  18. My mom sent me Evie's article today that she read while on a Southwest flight. It took me a while to read the entire article because I probably stopped at least 5 times and sobbed. My son was born with an unexpected genetic condition which causes his pancreas to produce too much insulin. He has a feeding tube and we pretty much have to feed him through his feeding pump most of the day and throughout the night to keep his blood sugar stable. We've been through a lot with him and my heart just goes out to you and your family! I'm glad I've found your blog and you've inspired me to start a blog for my son, River. River's personality sounds a lot like your Evie!
